About Us

Ivor Thomas Funerals was the idea of Mark Ivor whilst working at Cardiff Bereavement Services. When he saw some of the prices and practices of the funeral industry, he believed that there was a niche in the market for a funeral service with the ethos of providing a cost effective funeral service, which still centres itself around the family in need.

He was also told to only go into business with people you trust, so the only person he wanted to pitch his idea to was his recently retired father Ivor Neil, as not only do they share the same ideology of family needs coming first, but Mark also knew that Neil would put his heart and soul into it.

The company started in January 2019 and was christened ‘Ivor Thomas Funerals’ to honour both their names. Since then, the whole family have become involved and we’ve even had several ‘adoptions’ into our Ivor Thomas Funerals family. Please see a little introduction to everyone below.

Neil

Born in Cathays, Cardiff, Neil started his working life with a carpentry apprenticeship, and is still carving and turning wood today. After serving with the REME and a successful career in building management, Neil was approached by his son Mark with the idea of starting Ivor Thomas Funerals. He gladly accepted, although he insists it was Sue’s idea to keep him out of the house!

Mark

After a year volunteering at the Belarusian Children’s Hospice, Mark took a job as Funeral Arranger for Babies and Children at Thornhill Cemetery. His work in helping families through the most difficult times of their lives showed him what his calling was, and so he decided to start Ivor Thomas Funerals – a funeral director committed to being honest, open, affordable and fair.

Sue

After marrying Neil and raising their two children, Sue worked at a primary school and a specialist additional needs school until retirement; a job she loved. She has always put her artistic talents to use, making flower arrangements and displays, before taking a recognised course. Since then, she’s been our expert florist!

Natasha

Born and raised in Minsk, Belarus, Natasha qualified as a doctor before moving to Wales after meeting Mark. She now works as a scientist, and her training, knowledge and innate compassion makes her an invaluable asset to Ivor Thomas Funerals, helping us offer the utmost care to our families.

Sarah

Two years younger than her brother Mark, Sarah works with an organisation helping people with additional needs, and she also volunteers in a charity shop and as an Assistant Cub Leader. Despite being very busy, she always finds time to help out at the Ivor Thomas Funeral home and on funeral services.

David

Born in Splott, Cardiff and raised in Llanishen, Dave has been a family friend for well over a decade. With a previous history in banking and shipping, he brings a wealth of experience when it comes to administration and is also a dab hand as a bearer too!

Donna

An experienced community outreach worker, Donna’s enthusiasm and outside the box thinking is something that we put to good use. Our social media guru is also a fantastic bearer and always willing to help.

Keiron

Hailing from the Rhondda Valley, Keiron built himself working within customer service before joining the ITF family. His work ethic is a huge asset and his willingness to learn and perfect things is something we value highly.

FAQs & Advice

A burial is when someone is laid to rest within a grave. Cremation is when the person is cremated.
We understand things can change so as long as you let us know ASAP, we will always endeavour to make any changes you request.
Disbursements are essentially third party costs, the most common within a funeral being the burial or cremation fee, minister and doctors fees. Unlike most funeral directors, we include these within our fee to simplify the costs.
